Making the move from Kent to Stratford-upon-Avon after finding her perfect home at Birnam Mews
"Shared Ownership is perfect for me! It enabled me to buy my own home, it’s a dream come true!"
Janet, decided to relocate during the pandemic to move across the country from a quaint hamlet in Kent to Stratford-upon-Avon to be closer to her mother. Having lived in Kent for over 21 years with her daughter in an apartment, it was time to move back to her birthplace after her daughter moved away for university. Having found Birnam Mews during her research, Janet realised that this was her new home after it ticked all her boxes.
Janet explains “In my search for my home, I did not know whether I could afford an apartment or a house and I also didn’t actually know at the time whether I would be renting or could afford to purchase. When I saw Birnam Mews advertised and the price, it was perfect for me.”
Janet purchased 25% share of a spacious 1-bedroom house at Birnam Mews through the Shared Ownership scheme.
“I was very much attracted to Birnam Mews as I started doing my research, which I do on everything, and I began to realise that it was going to be a small new-build development with a lot of space and beautifully made. I was at first concerned that I would hear my neighbours, but the sound proofing is remarkable and I’m very happy about that. I went to see the property for the first time in May 2020 and to see in person, how a bedroom downstairs and living quarters upstairs would work. I was amazed and I love it, and it really works perfectly for me.”
When discussing the buying and moving process, Janet explains her positive experience with L&Q.
“L&Q helped me every step of the way with the sales process and kept me informed throughout the buying process, they were professional and helpful and made the experience stress free. Moving day was an auspicious occasion, my car was packed with immediate essentials and I couldn’t believe that I would be sleeping in my own home that night. I celebrated on my own with a bottle of bubbly and facetimed my family.”
When asked what her favourite features of her new home are, Janet remarks, “I love my home, it’s quirky and fits my character perfectly. My spacious bedroom is downstairs, beautifully put together. The living quarters are upstairs, it’s open plan, with high ceilings and feels very comfortable and calming. I also have a wrap-around garden, my own parking space and I have this sense of peace and tranquillity living here, which, for me is extremely important.
Janet continues, “I’ve noticed a huge difference in my heating bills since November, as I haven’t had the need to turn it on as the build is very well insulated. The build quality for my home is wonderful.
I never expected to have my own home, and in fact this is an accomplishment for me, and I still can’t quite believe it, that I have my own home now, I am so happy.”
Concluding on her new life at Birnam Mews, Janet is enjoying the neighbouring and local community spirit, “What I love about Birnam Mews is the feeling of community and I feel very settled and have lovely neighbours and we’re already having small gatherings together which is great fun.
I’ve been living in Birnam Mews since November and already there is a sense of community, a sense of care and a sense of friendship, which for me is lovely.”
