Our L&Q team had a fantastic day sponsoring and taking part in the 18th Milton Keynes Dragon Boat Festival at Willen Lake.
Dragon boat racing is the fastest growing water activity in Britain today and the fun-packed community event was a great way for our L&Q Saxon Reach team to discover why. We were extremely proud to be gold level sponsors of this year’s event, raising £11,000 for the Macintyre Charity and the Milton Keynes community.
Macintyre is a national charity that supports children, young people, and adults with learning disabilities. The central office for the charity is situated in Milton Keynes, and every penny raised at the Dragon Boat Festival went towards Macintyre’s MK Lifelong Learning Sports Project.
At the heart of L&Q’s work is our promise to not only reinvest all the money we make into new and existing homes, but also into supporting and growing local communities. Part of this promise, the Milton Keynes Dragon Boat Festival was a fantastic opportunity for the L&Q Counties team to meet and race alongside local people, helping maintain a popular annual event and supporting a valuable local charity.
The races took place on the 200m course at Willen Lake and were watched by several thousand spectators. Out of 35 teams, L&Q’s sixteen-man crew came second in the heats, making it through to the semi-finals and just narrowly missing out on a place in the final.
L&Q’s Saxon Reach development at Glebe Farm is located nearby, just 3 miles away from Willen Lake. With The Parks Trust organising events all throughout the year, buyers can enjoy Willen Lake in all seasons. The new homes, which will be launching in September, offer a mix of one to five bedroom homes that create a neighbourhood which is a natural extension of Milton Keynes.
