With the summer holidays stretching out ahead of us, hundreds of families are currently seeking fun days out and excursions close to home to keep children entertained throughout the school break.

Our new Shared Ownership homes at Hooper’s Green are located in the heart of St Neots – Cambridgeshire’s fastest growing town. Popular with families, the development is ideally located a short journey from four of the area’s thriving urban hotspots – Bedford, Milton Keynes, Northampton and Cambridge itself.

Taking the stress out of your summer holiday, we’ve planned a fun family day out for each of these destinations! Read on for our recommendations…

1. Cambridge – 28-minute drive from Hooper’s Green

Head out on a day trip to discover the charming, cobbled streets of the historic city of Cambridge. Renowned for its world-class education, Cambridge is so much more than just a university city and offers a wealth of fun activities perfect for families.

A unique opportunity to explore by water, take a leisurely punt down the River Cam and pass under several famous bridges. A chance for children to try their hand at steering – but be careful not to get the pole stuck in the mud!

In the afternoon, children can become an undercover agent in an interactive game experience, SI5 Spy Missions. Suitable for the whole family, from children as young as four, work together to solve puzzles and complete challenges onboard a hijacked warship – guaranteed to get your brains whirring and bring the family together!

2. Bedford – 23-minute drive from Hooper’s Green

The perfect outdoorsy family day out, Bedford’s Stockwood Discovery Centre is home to beautiful gardens, interactive exhibitions and a thrilling programme of events. From creative drawing workshops to outdoor cinema screenings of Matilda the Musical, kids of all ages are catered for with the summer schedule at Stockwood Discovery Centre.

For those who like a bit of adrenaline, on the outskirts of Bedford is Box End Park – two purpose-built watersports lakes. Learn to wakeboard on the cable tow or have a go on the inflatable adventure aqua park course – there’s something for everyone! The ideal way to cool off in the hot summer months whilst having fun with the whole family.

3. Milton Keynes – 39-minute drive from Hooper’s Green

For the ultimate family day out in Milton Keynes, book a visit to Woburn Safari Park. Start your adventure with a Road Safari drive through sweeping parkland reserves, where you’ll see wild animals roaming in acres and acres of beautiful countryside.

Park up and continue your adventure on two feet through the Foot Safari, where you’ll explore the habitats of a host of smaller mammals and birds – from monkeys and penguins through to exotic birds and sea lions.

There’s even a Go Ape within the park for anyone keen to take on an exhilarating tree top challenge!

4. Northampton – 45-minute drive from Hooper’s Green

After a major redevelopment, Northampton’s newly refurbished Museum and Art Gallery has reopened. During school holidays, the museum runs a range of playful, creative and inspiring workshops that bring the stories in the collection to life.

Also worth a visit, the historic Abington Park Museum is located nearby in a beautiful park. Perfect for summer days, the park has a play area and lots of green spaces to play and picnic with children.
