The Quarry residents bring ‘Car Free Day’ to Erith
Residents at Erith-based eco-development, The Quarry, came together to celebrate a more sustainable future on World Car Free Day. Hosted on Saturday 22 September, the event welcomed residents of all ages for an afternoon of fun and games on Strata Road, to mark the community’s commitment to the environment.
Ahead of Car Free Day, all cars were removed from the residential area and the entrance to the street was blocked from vehicles, providing a safe space for the community to come together. Young residents made the most of the empty streets, enjoying an afternoon of cycling, rollerblading and table tennis. Amongst other activities, L&Q and Anderson also supported the event by providing fun games for the children to enjoy including, giant Jenga and Connect 4. Following the success of the event, residents have pledged to make Car Free Day into a monthly initiative at The Quarry.
Car Free Day is a global project that encourages motorists across the world to leave their cars at home for day and travel via greener routes. This year’s celebrations were the largest London has ever seen, driven by Mayor of London Sadiq Khan’s mission to re-imagine the city as car-free.
Sasha Barnes, one of the first new residents to move into The Quarry last year, was joined by several of her neighbours to organise the event, she said:
“We were thrilled to see so many families at The Quarry come out to celebrate Car Free Day. It was a fantastic event that allowed us to get to know one another and enabled our children to play outside safely. It was also an opportunity for us all show our support for protecting the environment. This is the second neighbourhood event that we’ve hosted at The Quarry this year, it’s really special to be part of this community.”
Vicky Savage, London Managing Director at L&Q, added on behalf of the joint-venture partners:
“Car Free Day is a brilliant project that is uniting people to combat the issue of climate change and it’s been fantastic to see the community at The Quarry participate in the initiative. We are thrilled to support our residents in strengthening the development’s environmental commitment that lies at the heart of The Quarry We’re excited to give more people the opportunity to join this growing community at The Quarry, as we launch the next phase of properties this weekend.”
The next phase of homes, which includes 1, 2, 3 and 4-bedroom properties, has now launched, with prices starting from £225,000 for a one-bedroom studio apartment.
