Buying a house can feel overwhelming – but The Quarry just clicked for us
March 2026For accountants Deepali (29) and Ravi (31), moving out of their two-bedroom rental in Royal Victoria Docks wasn’t about disliking city life, but about finding more space for their growing family.
“We were renting an apartment that we loved in Royal Victoria Docks, East London,” says Deepali, “but when we had our first baby, our priorities changed. We needed more space for our daughter, and we started thinking more long term – nurseries, schools, outdoor space… that kind of thing.”
The couple began their search during Deepali’s pregnancy, initially looking at second-hand homes. But after viewing multiple properties, nothing felt quite right. “We wanted something that felt like ours from the start,” explains Ravi. “We didn’t want to deal with the cost or hassle of renovating an older property. There’s a lot to think about when you buy a house – and all those little things can really add up.”
When they first visited The Quarry in Erith, Deepali was six months pregnant. The couple viewed both a three-bedroom and four-bedroom home, and while they weren’t ready to commit just yet, the development made a lasting impression. “The interiors were beautiful, and it kind of had everything we were looking for, really.”
Delivered as a joint venture between L&Q and Anderson, The Quarry is a development on the site of a disused quarry in Erith, South London. Included in the masterplan are 849 new homes – a mix of apartments and family houses – as well as green spaces and community facilities, all within easy access to efficient transport links into the capital and beyond.
Deepali and Ravi welcomed their daughter in December 2024. A few months later, with more confidence around their finances and a clearer idea of what they needed, they returned to The Quarry and made their move — completing on a three-bedroom home in March 2025.
Now settled in, Deepali says the home has ticked all the boxes: “We have a lovely garden – we’ve already had a few BBQs! There’s so much natural light in the house, we get sunshine streaming in all day. It just feels like a really happy place.”
Beyond the home itself, the local amenities and family-friendly feel were a huge draw. “We love having the Sainsbury’s Local on-site, and we’ve got Asda, Morrisons and an Indian grocery shop just a few minutes away, too. Bexleyheath town centre is either a short drive or a direct bus ride away, and it’s got a great selection of shops there. It’s a nice high street that’s handy to have nearby.”
The location works perfectly for the couple’s commute, too. “I work in Canary Wharf and Ravi’s based near Tottenham Court Road,” says Deepali. “We’re both on the Elizabeth line, so it’s really easy to hop on at Abbey Wood. Buses are also very regular – it’s all super accessible.”
With the Lime Wood Primary School open on site, The Quarry has also given the couple peace of mind for the future. “It’s such a comfort knowing we could one day walk our daughter to school from here. Especially for working parents, that kind of convenience makes a big difference!”
Reflecting on the journey, Deepali says the decision to buy felt like a big one, but the team at The Quarry helped them feel confident: “Buying a house can be overwhelming, but the whole experience felt really smooth. We were impressed by the warranties that came with the property, and we had the reassurance of knowing we’d be supported if anything came up.”
“Everything came together at the right time. We couldn’t have picked a better place to start this next chapter.”
