With half term just around the corner, we know that parents are on the look-out for fun ways to entertain the kids this winter holiday.

Whether you are staying local or want to venture further afield, we have rounded up our favourite family-friendly activities to enjoy this February half term, all accessible from our new homes at The Arbour, Chelmsford. You may need your coat and a pair of wellies, but don’t let the winter weather dampen your plans!

 

Chelmsford City Museum

Set in city’s beautiful Oaklands Park, complete with an adventure play area, the Chelmsford Museum is open throughout February half term, and is a great day trip out, close to home. Learn all about Chelmsford’s fascinating past, and the buried Jurassic island which lies underneath the city. Kids can marvel at rocks, pebbles and fossils that date back 100 million years and even look at evidence of the times when sharks lived in the area! There’s so much local history to discover here.

RHS Garden Hyde Hall

The 360-acre estate of RHS Garden Hyde Hall is beautiful whatever the weather. Take a walk through the gardens and enjoy the vast range of different flowers and plants, whilst learning about environmentally friendly gardening and the outdoors. Make a much-needed pit stop after your explorations at The Clover Café and choose from their tasty selection of teas, coffees, cakes and sandwiches.

Call of The Wild Zoo

Everyone loves a visit to the zoo, and this half term is no exception! Take a trip to Call of The Wild Zoo in South Woodham Ferrers, just a short drive from Chelmsford, and learn about the importance of animal welfare and the conservation of our planet. Children can get up close to monkeys, meerkats and reptiles, and hear more about the animals from the Zookeepers, finding out about their history and how they survive in the wild. This is a fantastic family day out for all – perfect for true animal lovers!

A day trip to London

For adventures a bit further from home, take a day trip to the capital city in just 37 minutes via train from Chelmsford Station. London has a vast array of museums and activities to entertain children of all ages. Visit Buckingham Palace, where you may even be lucky enough to get a glimpse of His Majesty, The King, or watch the Changing of the Guard ceremony.

If you are looking for a jam-packed day, purchase the London Pass which gives families access to over 80 attractions across the city, including the London Eye and the famous London Dungeons. For those who love the outdoors, London has a vast amount of green space – including Hyde Park, Kew Gardens, and Green Park, just to name a few! Whilst exploring the capital, you will never run out of things to do.

This is the perfect place for gaming fanatics! This immersive group experience has a variety of games suitable for every family member aged 5 and over. These video games will include some of your favourite characters, from Shaun the Sheep to Angry Birds. There are puzzles, memory tests, trivia and so much more! The games range from 30 minutes to 75 minutes – ensuring there is a game to suit everyone.
