Chelmsford Garden Community, as outlined in the new Chelmsford City Council Local Plan, is set to be the greenest community in Chelmsford, with a new agreement recently signed to deliver 80 net-zero carbon ready homes.

Chelmsford City Council, in collaboration with Countryside Zest, Columbia Threadneedle, Channels, Hanson, Ptarmigan Land, and Homes England, has agreed to fund a significant phase of the development in accordance with the Government’s emerging Future Homes Standard.

Countryside Zest is currently working on the reserved matters application for the scheme, which will include approximately 80 carbon-neutral homes at Beaulieu, north east of Chelmsford.

The wider scheme also includes 10,000 new homes, 45,000 sq. m of employment space, a country park, transport improvements (including the new Chelmsford North East Bypass, a new radial road and improvements to the bus system), two primary and secondary schools, a nursery, and nine plots for travelling showpeople.

It is hoped that a planning application will be submitted by the end of 2021, with the first phases of construction complete in 2023.
