Reading is a bustling commuter hub with fast rail links to everything the country has to offer – from busy cities to the beautiful English countryside. The UK’s 9th busiest station outside London can whisk Reading locals to the quaint villages of the Cotswolds, the pebbly beaches of Brighton and the bright lights of London in less time than it takes to walk half a marathon.

Our new apartments at L&Q at Huntley Wharf are located just an 11-minute walk from Reading Station, meaning residents can opt to live a car free lifestyle. Here are just some of our favourite nearby day-trip locations, accessible from Reading:

London

Whether commuting into the capital for an important business meeting or spending an evening at one of London’s top theatres, journeys from Reading to London take just 23-minutes. The Elizabeth Line now enables adventurers to hop off at Paddington, Bond Street, Tottenham Court Road, and Liverpool Street, or travel all the way to Abbey Wood.

For history-lovers, or those looking for a bit of culture, London has wide array of museums to explore. The V&A Museum, a West London favourite, is always a hit with visitors, featuring exhibitions on everything from fashion and design to photography, art and performance. As most of the exhibitions are free, a relaxing wander around the museum, followed by coffee and cake in the café, is an affordable way to spend a Sunday.

Alternatively, spend the day at Camden Market, browsing the legendary array of shops and stalls. Discover the eye-catching colourful umbrellas in Saddle Row, or enjoy a meal at one of the Grade-II listed dining destinations in North Yard – including a natural wine shop, rooftop restaurant, and a cheese and fondue bar.

For evening adventures, visitors can head to Borough Market to try a range of different dishes, before catching one of Shakespeare’s classics at The Globe, or heading up The Shard to watch the sunset over London’s skyline.

Cotswolds

For a quieter weekend away, residents can catch a train to Moreton-in-Marsh, Kingham, or Charlbury, all located in the Cotswolds, with the journey totalling just over 2 and a half hours. For even speedier connections, residents at L&Q at Huntley Wharf can make use of the on-site car sharing service at L&Q at Huntley Wharf, shortening travel time to just 1 hour and 13 minutes.

Book one of the many hotels and rental cottages tucked away in the area’s historic villages, brimming with breath-taking architecture. Whether visiting cosy pubs or Michelin star restaurants, spotting local wildlife, or riding the renowned Steam Railway, weekends in the Cotswolds are guaranteed to be a relaxing retreat.

Brighton

If the seaside is more up your street, in just under two-hours, those travelling from Reading can spend the day in bustling Brighton. With hotels lining the seafront, and plenty of fish & chip takeaways to choose from, Brighton is an ideal waterside escape from the everyday.

Whether you’re keen to browse the array of vintage and independent shops in The Lanes, cycle along the pebbled beach, or spend the day exploring one of the city’s many museums, Brighton has it all.

For evening entertainment, a roster of new and established musicians and comedians frequently play at Brighton’s numerous bars. Alternatively, there are endless spots to eat and drink alongside the pier and into Brighton Marina.
