Mayor of London Awards The Quarry Two New Trees

The Quarry’s commitment to sustainability is recognised as part of National Tree Week

We’re delighted to announce that The Quarry has been chosen to receive two new trees from the Mayor of London, as a result of residents’ support for the environment at Car Free Day earlier this year. The activity is part of the wider ‘Trees for Londoners’ scheme that aims to plant 60,000 trees across the capital this week, in celebration of National Tree Week, which runs from 23rd November – 1st December.

The initiative sees City Hall partner with the Woodland Trust, supported by players of People’s Postcode Lottery. Hundreds of Londoners, community groups and schools are all taking part in this week’s planting, helping to reach the target of increasing London’s tree canopy by 10% by 2050 to help to tackle climate change.

A Rowan tree and a Cherry tree are set to be the newest features of eco-development, The Quarry. They will join the other 60 trees already planted across the development, fulfilling The Quarry’s mission to not only protect but also enhance the biodiversity of the area. The development’s natural surroundings include an ecology area the size of three football pitches, alongside a number of green communal spaces for all residents to enjoy.

Sasha Barnes, resident at The Quarry, said:

“I’m really pleased we were selected to receive one of the trees from the Mayor of London and The Woodlands Trust. It’s fantastic for the community at The Quarry to have been able participate in Car Free Day and to also give something back to the environment by planting our very own tree. I look forward to seeing them grow with our growing community!”

Vicky Savage, London Managing Director at L&Q, comments:

“It’s fantastic to see The Quarry residents recognised for their commitment to the environment, following the incredible Car Free Day event in September. We’re thrilled to have created a community that holds sustainability at its heart, and we can’t wait to plant the new trees on the site!”
